ASN Morning Read: U.S. Squad Moves on to Dublin

United States head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has a couple things to say about his players as they prepare to take on the Irish Tuesday afternoon; could a match against Mexico be in the offering?

  • On Friday's match: "It provided a haunting sense of déjà vu from last summer's World Cup. In that tournament, the U.S. tended to defend tough, be opportunistic in attack, and fight like hell to get results. That the Americans used those traits to get to the second round is to their credit, but it only gets you so far. And once again one is left to wonder at what point the long-promised proactive style from U.S. manager Jurgen Klinsmann will begin to reveal itself."

  • But hey:
  • Miguel Herrera told Mexican papers that El Tri and the United States will play in April. The teams battled around the same time last year, a 2-2 draw in Arizona.

  • Jurgen Klinsmann: "We had many players struggling after the World Cup to get back into shape, especially European players," he said. "We had quite a few European players losing their starting spots. Right now, they're on the way to getting them back, but it took quite a long time, because they came late in the preseason, so they're not as fit yet to claim right away their starting spots. Jozy is a good example, Fabian Johnson, Timmy Chandler, John Brooks, Julian Green—all of them, they struggled."

  • Jozy Altidore is tweeting some strange things: "@Lagalaxy: really? Stop blowing up my agents phone then. No means no."
