The U.S. defender's transfer saga gets stranger by the day, with reports contradicting Besler's own statements regarding Sunderland and another report claiming he would prefer just to stay in Kansas City.

Nobody seems to have any clue what's happening with Matt Besler's potential move to Europe. Besler said earlier in the week that “Sunderland put in an offer or are putting in an offer,” but ESPN FC and the Sunderland Echo both report Sunderland isn't bidding for the defender.
Meanwhile, The Kansas City Star reports Besler would prefer to stay in Kansas City, seemingly backed up by a statement made by club CEO Robb Heineman on Thursday: “We’ve always had a strong sense that we want to have Matt back. Now we’re getting a strong sense that he wants to be back.”

Brian Sciaretta caught up with 20-year-old Caleb Stanko, who seems to be on the verge of breaking into SC Freiburg’s first team. “The first year and a half were really hard. I had to live on my own while not having any family here,” Stanko said of going to Germany as a teenager. “You had all these guys competing for spots even at a really young age. It was tough. But I think I’ve grown from that. I’m a stronger person now. I think overall I’m stronger I’m a stronger player because of it.”
