Until that miss, Donovan had missed one MLS penalty every three years: 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013 (now two).

Bruce Arena is all "time to make some changes" about the whole thing. But for our purposes, maybe let's talk about the fact that Donovan helped draw the penalty with a brilliant pass rather than another miss, you know? If you're Jurgen Klinsmann, you have a bunch of other dudes who can kick the ball into the net from 12 yards. What you don't have is someone to make the pass. Now, perhaps, you do.Entering 2013, Landon Donovan was 34-37 on MLS penalties (including playoffs). He's 0-2 this year.
