  • Presented without comment:
  • ESPN The Magazine featured Megan Rapinoe in its body issue. She becomes the first openly LGBT athlete to appear on its pages.

  • Never too much soccer:
  • "A crowd of soccer fans on Sunday went silent in the middle of a game and collectively took part in a poignant gesture honoring a referee killed in an on-field altercation last week. The Detroit City Football Club is known for its frenzied fans, but they put a momentary halt to soccer-crazed shenanigans just before halftime Sunday in a game against the Cincinnati Saints played at Cass Tech High School. They quietly raised red cards at the 44th minute, paying tribute to John Bieniewicz, a 44-year Westland man who died July 1, two days after being struck in the neck area as he attempted to raise a red card to signify a player's ejection during a recreational adult-league soccer match in Livonia."

  • Tab Ramos' latest U-20 roster:
Goalkeepers: Santiago Castano (New York Red Bulls; Union City, N.J.), Zack Steffen (Maryland(m); Dowlington, Pa.)
Defenders (7): Michael Amick (UCLA; Sunnyvale, Calif.), Conor Donovan (Railhawks Academy; Fuquay Varina, N.C.), Luis Martir (Chivas de Guadalajara; Los Angeles, Calif.), Chris Odoi-Atsem (Maryland; Mitchellville, Md.), John Requejo Jr. (Club Tijuana; Carpinteria, Calif.), Caleb Smith (Solar Chelsea SC; Arlington Texas), Jesus Vasquez (UANL Tigres; San Luis Obispo, Calif.)
Midfielders (6): Fernando Arce (Club Tijuana, Chula Vista, Calif.) Russell Canouse (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim; Lancaster, Pa.), Marco Delgado (Chivas USA; Glendora, Calif.), Romain Gall (FC Lorient; Herndon, Va.), Lynden Gooch (Sunderland AFC; Santa Cruz, Calif.), Jacori Hayes (Wake Forest; Bowie, Md.)
