  • The women of the footballing world are getting serious about not playing on artificial turf at the 2015 Women's World Cup: "The U.S.’s Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan and Heather O’Reilly are some of the players whose legal representation—which includes a Canadian firm and the same U.S. firm that brought the recent O’Bannon vs. NCAA case—sent a letter to FIFA and Canada 2015 organizers in late July threatening a lawsuit. As of Monday, FIFA and the Canadians had acknowledged receiving the letter but had yet to respond. The Americans are hardly the only players ready to take FIFA to court for what they view as a case of gender discrimination, considering the men’s World Cup has never been played on artificial turf and won’t be in 2018 or ’22, either."

  • Gyasi Zardes is better than you at soccer: “I’m starting to see the game differently up top,” Zardes told American Soccer Now. “Playing up top with Robbie Keane is fantastic. I’m learning a lot from him and I am just working hard in training. I’m staying out there and putting in the extra work on my finishing. The game is really slowing down for me this year as opposed to my rookie year. I feel like I can just keep growing. I learned so much after my rookie year. This year I am still learning. If I keep putting in the work, the results will keep coming like they have been.”

  • Geoff Cameron wants out at Stoke City, which is strange although he sounds sick and tired of playing right back. (Aren't we all?). Apparently, he has interest from other English Premier League teams as well as outfits in Italy and Germany.

  • Could D.C. United be getting a new stadium soon? Who knows, but "D.C. United managing partner Jason Levien said in a television interview on Sunday that he is optimistic about the club’s plans for a soccer-specific stadium at Buzzard Point, and hinted that more information about the stadium’s progress will be revealed in September," according to MLSSoccer.com.
