It appears Eddie Johnson's playing days are over due to a heart condition that came to light near the end of 2014. He'll finish as the No. 8 scorer in U.S. national team history.

  • Sidelined since November due to a heart condition, Steve Goff reports that Eddie Johnson’s playing career is likely over. Johnson, who just turned 31, scored 19 goals in 63 appearances for the national team since his first senior appearance back in 2004.

D.C. United boss Ben Olsen last month: “It’s a terrible situation for Eddie, but I’ve spoken with Eddie, and Eddie gets it. There is a potential life issue here that has to be focused on and making sure he is not putting himself in any danger to play this sport again. That is all that matters.”

Johnson scored some of the most important goals of the last qualifying cycle, but this one might be our favorite:


  • Recovering from December’s knee injury, Terrence Boyd is making the most out of his time on the sideline, studying other forwards. "I'm able to watch all the moves – how to beat the offside trap, how to get to the ball, positioning, making yourself available,” Boyd said.
