It’s hard to imagine in 2014, but it wasn’t that long ago that the U.S. was in the midst of a 40-year World Cup drought. The Philly Soccer Page has a spectacular piece on why the U.S. failed to qualify for the tournament between 1950 to 1990.
And of course that’s an excuse to watch Paul Caligiuri’s Shot Heard ‘Round the World:
The U.S. U-20s won their second match in as many days at the Dallas Cup, beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 behind goals from Benji Lopez, Zach Pfeffer and Romain Gall. Next up is Tigres on Wednesday.
Jozy Altidore sent a signed photo to a teenager with Williams Syndrome, who had written Altidore a letter as a form of therapy. Good guy.
New York City FC will play at Yankee Stadium for three years. Can’t imagine anybody is happy with this situation.

Another possibility was “Ian Explains America,” vignettes in which Darke would eat a Cronut and explain “twerking.” Somebody should launch a Kickstarter to get that made.
