ASN Morning Read: Copa America Gets Underway

  • Jurgen Klinsmann expressed confidence in his team, and revealed some lofty expectations. “This is Copa America. This is about now. This is not about two years from now when hopefully we qualify for Russia,” Klinsmann said. "This is now about the best team representing our country in order to get results. This is all about now. "It's about winning."

  • How would you line the team up tonight?

  • In a Q&A with the Wall Street Journal, Klinsmann talked a whole bunch about young players and you can probably guess what he said: “We definitely expected more youngsters to be stronger and breaking through and getting to the next level. Too many of the young players are stagnant at the moment or losing a year or two. That worries us. If it’s Rubio Rubin, or Julian Green still on the second team, or Emerson Hyndman. The years where we lose a lot of our future are between 18 and 22. This is the discussion probably Bruce Arena had before, Bob Bradley had before and Bora Milotunovic had before. How can we get so many young boys who are driven to take their careers in their own hands and [not] to just trust their talent?”

  • The Klinsmann era is being put to the test at the Copa America.

  • Alex Morgan scored twice in the U.S. women’s 3-3 draw with Japan last night, with Japan scoring late in stoppage.
