  • Clint Dempsey’s former Fulham teammate Danny Murphy revealed an insane (yet unsurprising) story about the U.S. captain. After finding out he wouldn’t be starting the 2010 Europa League semifinal just before the match, Dempsey went off. “Clint is a passionate boy, a Texan. He doesn't hold back and he decided to punch a window, which had thickened glass,” Murphy said. “Basically half his finger was off and you could see his tendon. Glass shattered - it was some punch by the way. Blood was going everywhere. This was all because he wanted to play of course.” Dempsey was bandaged up and managed to come on as a substitute.

  • The U.S. women beat Mexico 4-0 behind goals from Amy Rodriguez, Megan Rapinoe, Tobin Heath and Alex Morgan. Highlights:

  • MLS announced its brand overhaul – “MLS Next” – on Thursday, and Don Garber notes that the 20th season is “the first full turn of a generation” for the league. "We’ve seen this enormous connection that we’ve had with young people who’ve grown up with the game and early in the league’s history were players and youth participants and not really engaged fans.”

  • And what of Chivas USA? “We expect to be able to close an agreement by the end of the season,” Garber said. “Once we get an ownership group in place, we’ll sit down with them and make a decision as to whether or not we’re going to keep that team operating in 2015 and beyond.”

  • Dempsey still spits hot fire:

  • In more Fulham-related things, manager Felix Magath is out. That may not be good for Emerson Hyndman, who started four of the first seven league matches of the season for the last-place Cottagers.
