Chivas-Galaxy game tonight was a lot different than the ones I used to play in. No atmosphere, no rivalry, no feeling.
News on the soccer broadcasting front: NBC does some shuffling in anticipation of its inagural English Premier League season. Richard Deitsch explains that Arlo White is moving to England and John Strong will replace him beginning in July. You might not know Strong's name, but he's the voice of the Portland Timbers and has moonlighted for Fox Soccer calling CONCACAF and Europa League games. He's also filled in for White on NBC. "From a day in and day out broadcast job, this is my dream job," Strong said. "To be in this position is mind-blowing."
Head coach John Hacksworth has helped trigger an impressive turnaround in Philadelphia from last season. The Union are in second place in the Eastern Conference and, as Keith Hickey describes over at Goal, the change is evident in other ways as well.
Usually, when a manager gets fired they hear from the club or the federation directly. Seems like the courteous thing to do, right? Well, English Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion didn't take that route. Instead, it let Gus Poyet, who was doing Confederations Cup analysis for BBC find out during a commercial break.
