AMERICAN MIDFIELDER DUANE HOLMES will be going on loan within the English Championship, moving from Huddersfield Town to Yeovil Town.

Sources confirmed that the loan will be for just one month and the move is designed to provide the 19-year-old a chance to get regular minutes. It will be the first time that Holmes has played for a club other Huddersfield Town in more than a decade, as he first began playing with the West Yorkshire club at the U-9 level.

“Firstly I would like to thank [Huddersfield Town coach] Mark Robins for the belief he has shown in me over the past few months, giving me my debut and giving me all the right things I needed to play," Holmes said. "I feel now it is time I got regular minutes under my belt and Yeovil are offering that."

"I am happy to be staying in the Championship," he added, "and hope I can bring my attacking style of football to the team and excite the fans and show what I have to offer at this level."

Holmes has enjoyed several impressive moments for Huddersfield Town this season, but he has yet to break into the team’s starting lineup. Robbins told the Huddersfield Examiner recently that a loan is going to be seen as way to bridge the gap between Huddersfield’s bench and the starting lineup.

“I really believe in Duane's ability,” the coach said. “He is a very good young player who has contributed in a number of games where he has come off the bench and helped change things. Now I want to see him come through strongly, and you look at the situation and think, 'How is his next progression going to come?' That could be through a spell out on loan, but as with all our players, it has to be right for this club and the individual."

Holmes, for one, seems excited about the opportunity.

"I spoke with [Yeovil Town coach] Gary Johnson earlier today and he reassured me of a few things," Holmes said. "I really liked what he had to say. He's an enthusiastic manager and I like that and ill be happy to give my all in Yeovil's bid to avoid relegation. I hope this loan move will allow me to progress as a player and come back to Huddersfield fighting for a place in the team.”

Yeovil needs all the help it can get. Currently in last place of the Championship, the club is seven points from safety. Through 29 games it has scored just 26 goals. Holmes, a creative midfielder, will be expected to help improve those anemic numbers.
