US needs speed & attacking up the sides, so moving FJ to the back hurts the attack too much (4 goals in 4 games at LW). Evans exposed at RB against Panama, and barely got by. GC into that slot to avoid a repeat. Plus GC has a better sense of when to get upfield.
EJ, Evans, and Boyd come on as subs after the US get a 2-0 lead by the 65 minute mark.
