Cameron and Parkhurst played soccer together together growing up. Parkhurst and Cameron give the USMNT two skilled and intelligent center backs who are equipped to handle a very technical Panama. One defensive midfielder with a line of three attacking midfielders with an actual playmaker (Joe Corona) playing as a mezz'ala on paper. Stuart Holden starts on paper in the middle, but he isn't a playmaker like Corona is. Holden brings good creative elements, good passing, proven abilities against top competition, and some tackling. Corona and Dempsey out wide allows them to pass and move all over the field and cut inside to attack the goal. Dempsey, Holden, and Corona can all maintain possession, score, and play final balls for Boyd and Altidore. Two strikers allows the US to stretch the Panamanian defense and disrupt them, which opens up space for the three attacking midfielders to pass and move and slip balls through to Altidore and Boy. Castillo as a LB with Fabian Johnson as a RB since he can play on either side of the field. Castillo is a natural left back used to playing skilled Latin American opponents. Guzan as the keeper.
